Your consultation is reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor from Expert Weight Loss and if appropriate, your consultation is approved.

Once your order is approved, you can book a pharmacy check-in and medication collection appointment at a time that works for you.

Step 4

During your quick check-in, we'll record your weight and height, with the option to also check your blood pressure, pulse, and waist circumference. If your BMI meets the required range for your treatment, the pharmacy will supply your medication.

Wegovy® is one of the latest weight loss treatments. This injectable GLP-1 medication, containing semaglutide, works alongside your healthy lifestyle and exercise routine to help you achieve your weight loss goals by curbing appetite and cravings.

What is Wegovy?

Wegovy® (semaglutide) is an effective injectable medication that helps people with a BMI of 30 or over lose weight. It’s also an option for those with a BMI of 27 or over who have weight-related health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart problems or Type 2 diabetes.

How effective is Wegovy as a weight loss treatment?

Wegovy is an effective weight loss treatment, approved by the MHRH. According to studies, users lost on average 15% body weight.

Who might be able to use the Wegovy Pen for weight loss?

Wegovy® is a prescription weight-loss injection designed for adults with a Body Mass Index, BMI, of 30 or higher. If you have weight-related health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, or high cholesterol, you may be eligible with a BMI of 27 or higher.
However, if you have Type 2 diabetes but your BMI is below 27, we cannot provide this treatment through this service.

How does Wegovy work?

The active ingredient in Wegovy® is semaglutide, which mimics a natural hormone called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1). This hormone helps control your appetite and makes you feel full, leading to weight loss.

What are the potential side effects of Wegovy?

Some people may experience common side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation when they first start taking Wegovy®. These side effects are usually temporary and subside within a few weeks as your body adjusts to the medication.
You might also experience mild reactions at the injection site, such as redness or itching. For a complete list of possible side effects and more detailed information, please refer to the patient information leaflet that comes with your medication.

What are the available strengths of Wegovy?

To minimise potential side effects, Wegovy® is started at a low dose of 0.25mg once a week. This dose is gradually increased every four weeks until you reach the maintenance dose of 2.4mg per week. This gradual approach allows your body to adjust to the medication and helps improve tolerability. The available strengths are 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg.

How long is the Wegovy treatment?

Wegovy® is designed to be a long-term treatment for weight loss and weight maintenance, working alongside healthy lifestyle changes like diet and exercise. While it can be prescribed for up to two years, the exact duration will depend on your individual weight loss goals and progress. It’s important to remember that maintaining weight loss after stopping Wegovy® requires an ongoing commitment to a healthy lifestyle. This means making sustainable changes to your diet and incorporating regular physical activity into your routine.

Frequently asked questions about Wegovy - East Anglia

The Wegovy FlexTouch Pen contains four weekly doses in total. After using your second dose, you can order the next pen through our website to allow enough time.
Your first order includes a sharps bin for safe disposal of used needles. After each injection, place the needle in the sharps bin. Once the pen is empty (after 4 doses) and the needle is removed, you can dispose of the pen in your household waste or the sharps bin. Contact your local council to arrange the collection of the full sharps bin. You can purchase additional sharps bins with future orders.
Yes, Wegovy is approved for weight loss and weight maintenance in addition to diet and physical activity.
Through this programme, you will have regular face-to-face check-ins at the pharmacy when you collect your medication each month. This will include measuring your height, weight and optional blood pressure, pulse, waist and hip circumference measurements. These measurements will be recorded on the system and will be available to you on your dedicated dashboard for review and track your progress.
If you forget a Wegovy® dose and it’s been 5 days or less since your scheduled injection, inject it as soon as you remember and continue with your regular schedule. If it’s been more than 5 days, skip the missed dose and inject your next dose as usual on your scheduled day. Never double your dose to make up for a missed one.

While Ozempic® and Wegovy® contain semaglutide that acts on the GLP-1 receptor and aids weight loss alongside healthy habits, Mounjaro® goes a step further. It contains tirzepatide, which stimulates both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors. This dual-action approach has demonstrated greater potential for weight loss compared to medications that only target the GLP-1 receptor.

Before using your Wegovy® pen for the first time, it needs to be stored in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Once you’ve started using it, you have the flexibility to keep it at room temperature (below 30°C) or in the fridge for up to 6 weeks. It’s important to never freeze Wegovy®. To self-administer the weight loss injection, you need three main consumables. These are pre-injection alcohol wipes to clean the injection site, disposable needles and a safeguard sharps bin to safely dispose of the used needles. We provide a starter pack of the consumables with the first injection order that contains a small number of wipes, needles and a safeguard sharps bin. Any subsequent consumables can be purchased from the pharmacy as required.
